At The Stephens Foundation, we believe learning should be fun, inspiring, and connected to the world around us. That’s why we’ve created a team of lovable mascots who help teach families and youth how to protect our environment and strengthen our community. Each mascot represents a different part of our ecosystem—and together, they show us how every action counts!
Kai, Freddy, Amani, and Leo work together to inspire youth and families across Sacramento to take action, stay educated, and create a cleaner, greener community. You’ll find our mascots throughout our educational efforts—on worksheets, videos, workshops, and community events—helping make learning engaging and fun for all ages.

Amani watches over our parks, gardens, and green spaces. She teaches us how important it is to care for the places where we play, relax, and come together as a community. From planting trees to keeping parks clean and safe, Amani empowers families to take pride in their neighborhood environment. She believes that when we care for our community, our community cares for us.

Kai is the brave protector of our oceans and waterways. With a heart as big as the sea, Kai teaches us about clean beaches, healthy rivers, and why it’s important to reduce pollution before it reaches the ocean. Whether it’s recycling, saving water, or keeping trash off the ground, Kai reminds us that even small changes make waves of impact.

Leo is strong, courageous, and always ready to roar for the planet! As the guardian of the land, Leo shows us how to protect soil, plants, and all the creatures that depend on them. He helps us learn about conservation, reducing waste, and creating healthy places for future generations. With Leo leading the way, we learn how to stand tall for our environment.

Freddy the Frog lives in the creeks and ponds of Sacramento and knows exactly what it takes to keep our local water clean. He hops into action to show kids how creeks, streams, and watersheds work—and how our choices on land can help keep his home healthy. Freddy encourages all of us to look after storm drains, protect wildlife, and understand how water moves through our neighborhoods.
